We are grateful to have Dr. Jeff Arthurs back preaching at GracePoint this Sunday. He is a preaching professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological seminary. Dr. Arthurs is going to be speaking on the opposition and encouragement that accompany our gospel witness. Let’s pray for him and our hearts as we journey through Thessalonians 2:13-3:13.
Discipleship Teaching of the Week
Is Jesus the hero of your story? Our passage this last week, Psalm 106, was about our inability to do what is right apart from the grace and strength of Christ. And so we must recount over and over what we have done: we have sinned. But we also recount what he has done: he has overcome our disobedience to save us to joy, justice and righteousness.
One way to do this is to tell your own story and make Jesus the hero of it. Think of the three most important moments in your life. How does Jesus relate to them? How did he sustain you, rescue you, grow you, love you, or something else? How is he doing that today? How is he the hero of your story?
Potluck, Prayer and Praise Service this Sunday at 5PM
We are starting up our monthly meals and prayer gatherings again this Sunday at 5pm. Bring a dish to share and come ready to share or listen in. We want to know how God is working in your life and how we can support and pray for you. All are welcome!
The elders (Chris Cummings, Mike Allen, George Hadgiannis and Ryan Phelps) just got back a from wonderful few days of praying and planning for GracePoint. We will give an update on what we discussed and let you know the plans for next year soon. We love this church and are excited for how God is going to use us.

July and August Service Time Change: 9:00AM As you may have heard, the Elders and Deacons have decided to change the Sunday service time to 9am for July and August. There are two reasons for this. The first is to beat the heat (our worship space does not have air conditioning). And the second reason is to bolster our Summer attendance! We hope you will make it a priority to attend services when you are in town. If you have questions about this, reach out to any of our leaders.
Sink Hole Update: As you have likely noticed, a sink hole developed in our front parking lot several weeks ago. The deacons have been working with professionals to assess the source of the damage and develop a plan for repair that will prevent it from happening again. This will be an expensive project, and we are doing our best to ensure that the money is used wisely and the job is done right. We are hopeful that repairs will begin this coming week. A large portion of the front parking lot will be excavated in the repair process; we appreciate your patience during this process. Feel free to contact Joe or Sandra with any questions.
Ladies Monday Evening Bible Study: Please join us Monday evenings at 7:00pm at the church. We are studying Overcomer by David Jeremiah. Join us as Dr. Jeremiah explains how our spiritual armor allows us to stand firm against the schemes and strategies of the evil one.
Women’s Retreat: Ladies mark your calendar for September 20-22 for the annual Berea Women’s Retreat. The schedule for the retreat is planned deliberately to give you a chance to grow and to be refreshed, to use the time in the unique way that you would most enjoy. For more information contact Shannon. You can register at berea.org or call 603-744-6344.
Moldova Mission Trip: We are planning to take our next mission trip to Moldova October 11th-19th. If you have any interest in going to Moldova, or would like more information, please contact Bill and Sandi Stearns.
Evening Praise & Prayer: Please join us this Sunday evening at 5:00pm. We will begin at 5:00pm with a potluck dinner. At 5:30pm we will have a service which includes sharing, praying and teaching. Everyone is welcome!
Men’s Bible Study: Men please join us as we study the book of Galatians. We are using Tim Keller’s book Galatians For You. We meet every Thursday from 6:30-7:30a at the church. All men are invited!
Help in the Café: We need someone to fill in on the 3rd Sunday of the month for Café for July thru October (7/21, 8/18, 9/15, 10/20). If you can’t take all of these months you can volunteer for any one of these dates. Please contact Alison to volunteer or to ask questions.
Cuddling Babies: If you like to cuddle and hold babies, this opportunity is for you! Lawrence General Hospital is always looking for volunteers to help soothe and comfort babies who may not have a mom present to do so. The volunteer commitment is only as much or as little as you desire. Coverage is needed 7 days a week from 7am-10pm and is greatly appreciated by the staff and the babies! If you would like more information please feel free to email Kim Wilkinson.
Helping with Slides: We are looking for a few people to train to use our worship slides program. It’s very easy and a good way to serve at GracePoint. Please contact Joe if you would like to know more.
Ministries at GracePoint: Do you feel that God is calling you to serve at GracePoint? Right now we need help in our Kids Town ministry! In addition, we are always looking for volunteers to serve in our café, on the worship and tech teams. Please pray and ask God where he wants you to serve. Contact Ryan for more information or to sign up!
PRAYING FOR GRACEPOINT
God has called each one of us as a solemn duty and as a high privilege, for the wonderful power of intercession for our church and for one another. Let us pray for workers at GracePoint:
Pray for Holiness
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. – 1 Peter 1:13–21
Father, we confess that too often we are not prepared for action. We are distracted, and we have set our hope on things other than your grace. We are desperate for your holiness. Teach us how to live as your obedient children. Remind us of what it cost your Son to make us holy before you. Let us not forget the weight of His sacrifice.
Lord, I ask that you give me a desperate longing to reflect your holiness, and that you would reveal to me specific areas in my life where I should pursue holiness.
I pray that GracePoint would be deeply concerned with pursuing holiness. Draw our church family and friends to you and that we would seek to reflect Christ in our lives. Father help us to reflect the character of Christ within our church and the community. Guide us and help us demonstrate your holiness to a watching world.
