Both accounts of Jesus’ birth (in Matthew and Luke) begin with long genealogies. And if you’re like me, you haven’t spent much time perusing all those names and connections. It seems like a bunch of unnecessary information, at least for us today. But perhaps we need to look more closely. Perhaps something is hidden within this genealogy that is not only good, but deeply helpful. To see well the mothers of Jesus, we will understand the import of God’s love and good news.
